Its theoretical value has been estimated at more than 70,000 times the current global GDP, highlighting the extent to which value can be projected onto matter.

In 2026, Solimán López engages with this legal and conceptual space by transforming Psyche 16 into a spatial ready-made, through three distinct acts:
Act I — A radio-frequency signal sent toward the asteroid prior to NASA's arrival, embedding an encoded image of a flag. Act II — A generative software producing more than 100,000 images, anticipating and pre-constructing potential future representations of the asteroid. Act III — A Declaration of Artistic Appropriation, formally notarized, preserved in synthetic DNA, and registered on the blockchain.

Through these actions, the project does not seek to claim the asteroid as material property, but rather to question how value, ownership, and representation can be constructed in advance of physical access, construct a conceptual framework through which it can be interpreted and understood.

IRIDIA operates simultaneously as a repository, a generator, a coalition, and an evolving archive, proposing a new framework through which value, matter, and intelligence can be reconsidered.

Beyond the confines of our planet, millions of stellar fragments dance in the void, witnesses to vanished planets, dead stars and a long series of celestial bodies. Between Mars and Jupiter, there exists a mass of iron, gold, nickel and platinum-group metals and rare earths that puts every system of value in contemporary civilization under tension.
16 Psyche is not merely a rock of approximately 280 kilometres in diameter, older than the Earth itself. Nor is it simply a proto-planet: its global value exceeds the world GDP by several hundred thousand times. According to estimates published by NASA and taken up by researchers at Arizona State University, the asteroid's metal content could reach $10,000 trillion, a figure approximately 70,000 times the combined GDP of every country on Earth, implying a potential international conflict of interests arising from the extraction of interplanetary natural resources.
The Action
In 2026, Solimán López carries out a series of artistic, legal and political actions with the absolute purpose of converting 16 Psyche into a spatial ready-made. An artistic object upon which rest a series of Declarations of Artistic Appropriation deposited before a notary, preserved in synthetic DNA and registered with the relevant international bodies.
In this space race and as an interplanetary performance, the artist deploys three simultaneous acts.
Frequency
The artist will send a flag encoded as a radio frequency signal, waves that will reach the asteroid in approximately 22 minutes after transmission, marking 16 Psyche molecularly before NASA.
Right to Image
Using data released progressively by the probe launched in October 2023, the artist constructs a series of predictive performances about the asteroid, describing it from every angle before its real discovery. Like surveillance cameras fed by this data, a system of over 100,000 post-photographic images is generated from different angles, textures, lenses and distances. This speculative archive precedes by several years the first real images that will be transmitted by the Multispectral Imager of the NASA Psyche spacecraft, whose orbital arrival around the asteroid is planned for July 2029, with a total investment of approximately 1.2 billion dollars.
Stellar Ready-Made
Through the Outer Space Treaty of 1967, which constitutes to date the most widely accepted document among spacefaring nations and which literally prohibits the assertive appropriation of a celestial body — its Article II stipulates that "outer space, including the Moon and other celestial bodies, is not subject to national appropriation by claim of sovereignty, by means of use or occupation, nor by any other means" — the artist invokes the construction of a stellar ready-made, provoking the appropriation of this rock as a cultural and artistic object, a sculpture endowed with property rights constituting its structural defence. This action is a philosophical condition that makes this rock a sacred place in the middle of the cosmos, attempting to prevent its mining and the armed conflict that would be associated with it.
The Proof
But sometimes we need proof of the existence of what lies beyond.
One kilogram of iridium, one of the rarest minerals in our current periodic table, with origins similar to those of 16 Psyche, bears witness to the symbolic power of natural resources. Le Grand K, a cylinder of iridium and platinum, two materials that came from outer space, kept under a triple glass bell outside Paris, was our absolute reference for the kilogram until 2019, at which point it was discovered that even these materials modify their composition over time, breaking all logic regarding contemporary value anchored in matter.
The Table
IRIDIA brings this tension and this problem to light, but also proposes a collective solution through the construction, as an integral part of the work, of a new periodic table of 128 groups of thought, conceived in collaboration with institutions, researchers, collectors, organisations from around the world and machines, to explore new alternatives to our greatest challenges as a species: the limitation of natural resources, the climate crisis, technological governance, economic inequality, the collapse of biodiversity or, precisely, interplanetary civilisation.
Each element of this table becomes a dedicated artificial intelligence agent representing a new conceptual mineral. The table becomes an operative model for thinking differently about matter, value and the relationships that govern the planet.
This gesture inverts the systems of interest and value of the rock, symbolising itself as an act of collective resistance and a safeguard of peace, opening up a new possibility of constructing value for present and future societies.

En 2026, Solimán López realiza una serie de acciones artísticas, jurídicas y políticas con la finalidad absoluta de convertir Psyche 16 en un ready-made espacial. Un objeto artístico sobre el que recaen una serie de Declaraciones de Apropiación Artística depositadas ante notario, conservadas en ADN sintético y registradas ante los organismos internacionales competentes.
En esta carrera espacial y como una performance interplanetaria, el artista despliega tres actos simultáneos.
Frecuencia
El artista enviará una bandera codificada en forma de radiofrecuencia, ondas que alcanzarán el asteroide en unos 22 minutos tras su emisión, marcando molecularmente Psyche 16 antes que la NASA.
Derecho a la Imagen
Gracias a los datos divulgados progresivamente por la sonda lanzada en octubre de 2023, el artista construye una serie de performances predictivas sobre el asteroide, describiéndolo desde todos sus ángulos antes de su descubrimiento real. A imagen de cámaras de vigilancia alimentadas por estos datos, se genera un sistema de más de 100.000 imágenes post-fotográficas desde diferentes ángulos, texturas, objetivos y distancias. Este archivo especulativo precede en varios años a las primeras imágenes reales que transmitirá el Multispectral Imager de la sonda NASA Psyche, cuya entrada en órbita alrededor del asteroide está prevista para julio de 2029, con una inversión total de aproximadamente 1.200 millones de dólares.
Ready-Made Estelar
A través del Tratado sobre el Espacio Ultraterrestre de 1967, que constituye hasta la fecha el documento más ampliamente aceptado por los países interesados en el espacio y que prohíbe literalmente la apropiación asertiva de un cuerpo celeste — su artículo II estipula que "el espacio ultraterrestre, incluida la Luna y otros cuerpos celestes, no podrá ser objeto de apropiación nacional por reivindicación de soberanía, por uso o por ocupación, ni por ningún otro medio" — el artista invoca la construcción de un ready-made estelar, provocando la apropiación de esta roca como un bien cultural y artístico, una escultura dotada de derechos de propiedad que constituye su defensa estructural. Esta acción es una condición filosófica que hace de esta roca un lugar sagrado en medio del cosmos, intentando evitar su explotación minera y el conflicto armado que vendría asociado a ella.
La Prueba
Pero a veces necesitamos pruebas sobre la existencia del más allá.
Un kilogramo de iridio, uno de los minerales más raros de nuestra actual tabla periódica, con orígenes similares a los de Psyche 16, da cuenta del poder simbólico de los recursos naturales. Le Grand K, un cilindro de iridio y platino, dos materiales venidos del espacio exterior, conservado bajo una triple campana de cristal a las afueras de París, fue nuestra referencia absoluta del kilogramo hasta 2019, momento en el cual se identificó que incluso estos materiales modifican su composición con el tiempo, rompiendo así toda lógica sobre el valor contemporáneo anclado en la materia.
La Tabla
IRIDIA pone de manifiesto esta tensión y esta problemática, pero propone también una solución colectiva mediante la construcción, como parte integrante de la obra, de una nueva tabla periódica de 128 grupos de pensamiento, concebida en colaboración con instituciones, investigadores, coleccionistas, organizaciones de todo el mundo y máquinas, para explorar nuevas alternativas a nuestros más grandes retos como especie: la limitación de recursos naturales, la crisis climática, la gobernanza tecnológica, la desigualdad económica, el colapso de la biodiversidad o, precisamente, la civilización interplanetaria.
Cada elemento de esta tabla se convierte en un agente de inteligencia artificial dedicado que representa un nuevo mineral conceptual. La tabla se convierte en un modelo operativo para pensar de otra manera la materia, el valor y las relaciones que gobiernan el planeta.
Este gesto invierte los sistemas de interés y valor de la roca, simbolizándose en sí mismo como un acto de resistencia colectiva y una salvaguarda de paz, abriéndonos una nueva posibilidad de construcción de valor para las sociedades actuales y futuras.
